I’ve always been drawn to pictures of odd proportions. Huge open skies, vast seas, or extended forests. Things that go on and on and on. I wanted to create something that showcased a sad sky, and have it literally weeping it’s way down the canvas.

This piece is actually acrylic, with the clouds modeled out of paste to give them some dimension. I then added watercolor at the top of the canvas and let it drip it’s natural course down and over the clouds. That’s one of my favorite techniques — just letting the watercolors create their own path, do their own thing. It’s amazing what odd and wonderful results can come from letting the medium just be, and not try to force it or control it in any way. I like to believe that’s how life should be for all of us.
I’m pretty please with how it turned out! Let me know your thoughts in the comments, and if there is a painting technique I should experiment with in the future!
